Chandigarh, February 3- Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal laid the foundation stone of and inaugurated six projects worth Rs 42,54,31,000 for the development of Karnal during a programme organized at Prem Nagar in Karnal today.
Under Karnal Smart City Limited these projects include, installation of 25,000 LEDs under street lighting replacement, development of sports facilities in Government Senior Secondary School, development of park in Uttam Nagar, beautification of Gandhi Memorial Hall under Heritage Corridor Project, beautification of Cantonment Church Tower and beautification of area around Sector-4 and Mudhaban including areas around Kos Minar and inauguration of new bitumen road from Kunjpura Road to Kailash Road and Pritam Nagar Park.
Foundation stone laid for various projects
The Chief Minister said that 25,000 new LEDs will replace old Street lights for which the work has already commenced. An estimated amount of Rs. 35.27 crore will be spent on this. As a part of this conventional lamps rated 90W and above will be replaced with individually controlled smart street lights, while lights below 90W will be replaced with LED street lights controlled with smart feeder based control panel.
He said that a central monitoring centre/software application would be set up to control the LED lights. Any local citizen will be able to register a complaint in the monitoring centre, if the complaint is not resolved for more than 48 hours, then an option will be provided to pursue the complaint.
Development of sports facilities in Senior Secondary School (Boys)
Under this project, sports facilities will be developed in the Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) located behind the old bus stand at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.13 crore. Under this volleyball court, chain link fencing, seating area around the playing field, visitor car parking with cycle stand, repair of boundary wall, gate portal, RO, Water cooler, landscaping and lighting and electrical works will be done.
Development of park in Uttam Nagar
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the development project of a park in Uttam Nagar. Under this, provision of practice pitch, volleyball court, cricket practice ground will be made in the park. There will be a provision of garden and foot bridge with stairs for seating, which will be converted into ghat during religious ceremonies.
Similarly the entrance will be extended through gazebo, gate and arrival plaza. There will be a walking track along the periphery of the park and a provision for a public library with outdoor seating plazas will also be made. Apart from this, arrangement of science park, meditation area, two wheeler parking facility and lighting will also be done in it. It will also have Karnal's first science park. The library and science park will directly benefit the students and young population of the area. There will be a provision of Chhat Puja in the garden. An estimated amount of Rs. 1.82 crore will be spent on this project.
Heritage Corridor Project
In this project, the historic Gandhi Memorial Hall heritage located near Ghantaghar Chowk will be beautified. Gandhi Memorial Hall is one of the major heritage sites of Karnal, which is a state declared monument under the Department of Archeology.
This project will increase the awareness among the citizens regarding the heritage of the city. Similarly, in another project beautification of Cantonment Church Tower complex located opposite to it will be done. Upgradation of the complex to include new paths with lighting, landscape elements, gazebo, cemetery side arrival plaza, provision of route search and information signs and temporary parking for visitors will be done.
The Chief Minister said that this project includes a proposal to extend the heritage corridor by 3 kms from Shrimad Bhagvad Gita Dwar to Karna Gate. This corridor is essential for the development of cultural tourism of the city. Apart from this, beautification of historic Kos Minar located near Minar Road, Sector-4 and Mudhaban will also be done. In this, the existing monument will be illuminated with lights. Plazas will be added on both sides of the minaret to beautify and define the surrounding space. Clear lighting and signs will be added. Theme based painting will be done on the adjacent wall with provision of seating area wherever appropriate. An estimated amount of Rs 1,60,58,000 will be spent on these projects of the Heritage Corridor.
Chief Minister inaugurated two projects
The Chief Minister inaugurated a new bituminous road from Kunjpura Road to Kailash Road. The Chief Minister said that a new coal-tarred road has been constructed on an estimated 1.7 km kucha road from Kunjpura Road to Kailash Road and it is a two-lane bypass road. A sidewalk and parking space have been provided along the carriageway. The specialty of this road is that it is acting as a bypass from Kunjpura to Yamunanagar. The advantage of this project is that it has eased the movement of traffic to a great extent and it connects the villages with the urban areas. An amount of Rs 1.92 crore has been spent on the construction of this road.
Inauguration of newly constructed park in Pritam Nagar
The Chief Minister inaugurated the park made by the Municipal Corporation at Pritam Nagar. This was an old demand of the people of this region and it was included in the Chief Minister's announcement. After constructing the boundary wall of the grand park, swings etc. have been installed for the children to play in it, green grass and plantation have been done. A footpath has been made for the citizens and two huts have been made for seating, four mini mast lights have also been installed, which keep the park fully illuminated even during the night. Open air gym equipment has been installed in this park by Karnal Smart City. A total amount of Rs 80,31,000 has been spent on its construction.
