Chandigarh, July 23– Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal extended good wishes to the Indian contingent, especially the altheletes from Haryana, participating in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, today while watching the grand opening ceremony from Chandigarh here today.
The Indian contingent of 126 athletes has 25 per cent (30 atheletes) from Haryana.
While watching the ceremony, the Chief Minister was joyous and was confident that the altheletes will perform exceedingly well at the Tokyo Olympics-2020. Dressed in the official Indian uniform for the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the Chief Minister said that the athletes have worked very hard and he was looking forward to watch them perform at the International level. He was accompanied by Minister of State for Sports, Sh. Sandeep Singh, Publicity Cell OSD, Sh. Gajender Phogat and Director of Sports, Sh.Pankaj Nain.
He elaborated that Haryana has been promoting sports in the state as a part of which an amount of Rs 5 lakh was given to the athletes for better diet, training and capacity building. Besides this, various steps were taken wherein reprsentatives of the state visited the families of the athetes to enquire about the challenges being faced by them. The Chief Minister said that the state will take care of the families so that the athletes can participate in the event with a free mind.
Among the events tomorrow, India Vs Netherlands Women Hockey match will commence at 5:15 am tomorrow in which 9 atheletes from Haryana are participating, India Vs New Zealand Men’s Hockey match will start at 6:30 am tomorrow in which two athletes from the state are participating and a Men’s boxing match between India and Japan will start at 3:50 pm in which athlete from Haryana, Vikas Krishan, is representing the country.
