Chandigarh, September 25- Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, Haryana's healthcare landscape has undergone a monumental transformation. The tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of the government are poised to make the State a beacon of health and well-being for its citizens, setting a remarkable example for the nation.
With a threefold Surge in MBBS Seats, over the past nine years, Haryana has witnessed an astounding increase in MBBS seats. The state now offers 2185 seats, which in 2014 was merely 700. This monumental achievement means that more aspiring doctors have the opportunity to pursue their dreams of serving the community. Besides this, the PG seats have also increased from 289 to 851.
Not only this, the commitment to better healthcare is evident in the impressive growth of the health budget allocated by the present state government. From a modest Rs 2,800 crore in 2014, the state’s health budget has surged to a whopping Rs 9,647 crore in 2024-25. This boost in funding signifies the Manohar Lal-led government's dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services.
The proliferation of educational institutions is another key step taken by the present state government which has played a crucial role in realizing the Chief Minister’s vision for a healthier Haryana. With the establishment of nine new medical colleges a robust ecosystem for medical education and research has been created.
Five medical colleges and five nursing colleges on the cards
Meanwhile, Haryana is set to embark on a journey of even greater healthcare expansion with plans to establish five additional medical colleges and five nursing colleges. This initiative aims to cultivate a pool of skilled healthcare professionals. The medical colleges will be opened in district Bhiwani, village Haibatpur in district Jind, Gurugram, Koriyawas and Narnaul. While the government nursing colleges will open in districts Faridabad, Panchkula, Kaithal, Kurukshetra and Rewari.
Reopening of Gold Field Medical College
Apart from opening these new colleges, the government has also revitalized the Gold Field Medical College in Faridabad, dedicating it to the memory of the revered former Prime Minister, Late Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Meanwhile, in a bid to achieve excellence in medical education, the State Government is setting up Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Health Sciences University. The construction of this university in Kutail, Karnal, underscores the government’s commitment to excellence in medical education. The National Institute of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy is being established in Panchkula.
However, adopting a holistic approach, the government has also opened Sri Krishna Ayush University, nursing colleges, and physiotherapy colleges which are nurturing a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem that focuses on well-being at every level.
Specialized Healthcare Centres
A testament to Haryana's dedication to advanced medical care, the National Cancer Institute has been opened in Jhajjar. Besides this, the establishment of AIIMS in Majra, District Rewari also promises cutting-edge healthcare for the people of Haryana and the neighbouring states. Besides this, a Tertiary Cancer Care Center (TCCC) has been established in the Civil Hospital of Ambala Cantonment at a cost of Rs 72 crore on a Centre-State partnership basis. In this, all types of services are being provided to cancer patients.
Accessibility and Affordability
Taking a pivotal step to ensure accessible and affordable pharmaceutical services, the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra and Amrit Kendra have been thoughtfully opened in all government medical colleges.
