  • Chandigarh June 15: Haryana Government has given its go-ahead for the Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS) project for a high speed rail network from Sarai Kale Khan (SKK) in Delhi to the Haryana-Rajasthan Border near Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behrod (SNB).
  • This and several other decisions were taken in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal here today.  Union Minister of State for Planning, Rao Inderjit Singh was also present in the meeting.
  • The Chief Minister said that these mass transportation projects would provide a new impetus to growth and investment in Gurugram specifically and to South Haryana in general.
  • It was informed that the alignment for the RRTS project would run along an elevated section on the Old Delhi road in Gurugram to Lt Atul Katarya Chowk proceeding to Signature Tower Chowk and then along NH-48 up to Rajiv Chowk. Thereafter, the alignment moves underground beyond Kherki Daula where it would emerge above ground up to I.M.T Manesar. The alignment would move along the NH from up to Dharuhera, Rewari and Bawal before entering Rajasthan.
  • It was also informed that the first phase of the project would end at Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behrod ( SNB). The average speed of the high speed rail would be about 100 kmph and would provide a convenient mode of travel for daily commuters from Southern Haryana up to Delhi. The total cost of the first phase would be approximately Rs 25,000 crores. The project would be executed by NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a joint venture of the Government of India and the States of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi NCT. The NCRTC would prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in three months and physical work is likely to start by March 31, 2019.
  • The project to provide connectivity from Huda City Centre up to Gurugram Railway Station was also discussed in the meeting. It was decided that connectivity to Old Gurugram would also be ensured by extending the connectivity along the Sheetla Mata Road up to Rezangla Chowk and towards Sector 21-Gurugram completing the loop with the RRTS project coming up on the Old Delhi road. In addition, a metro project would also be planned along the Dwarka Expressway up to Sector 21-Dwarka.  For this, a techno-feasibility study would be carried out by Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC). The two lines would be connected along the new road proposed to be constructed by Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority  (GMDA) along sector 101/104 dividing road from Basai Chowk.
  • Earlier, a presentation was  made by Haryana State Industrial and infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) on the proposed metro project from Huda City Centre to Manesar-Rewari and Bawal. In view of the RRTS project coming up along a substantial portion of the same stretch, it was decided that HSIIDC would consider the project in phases with the first phase extending from Huda City Centre to Manesar and Panchgaon. Subsequent portions would be considered only after coordinating the common alignment with NCRTC. It was informed that the project would be posed for funding to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the support of Government of India.
  • It was also decided in the meeting to avoid duplication in investments considering that these projects are maturing at the same time and sharing of infrastructure would be considered to the extent technically feasible.
  • Among those present in the meeting included Chief Secretary, Mr D.S Dhesi, Principal Secreary to Chief Minister, Mr Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Mr Dhanpat Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Commernce Mr Devender Singh, Principal Secretary, Finance Mr T.V.S.N Prasad, Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Mr Anand  Mohan Sharan, Principal Secretary, Town and Country Planning and Urban Estates Mr A.K Singh,  Chief Administrator, Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran Mr J. Ganeshan, Chief Executive Officer of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Mr V.Umashankar and other senior officers of the State Government.
