  • Chandigarh, July 1--The Lord Venkateshwara Tirupati Balaji Temple under Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust, Kurukshetra, was opened to public today by the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal.
  • Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the temple would become a hub of tourists as now devotees, especially from north India, would not be required to go to Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) for worshipping Lord Venkateshwara.
  • Built near Brahma Sarovar and spread over 5.52 acres of land, this temple is the biggest in north India. An amount of about Rs 34 crore would be spent on the construction of this project, out of which Rs 18 crore has already been spent.
  • It took hard work of thousands of contractual labourers and 1,500 tonnes of graphite brought from Tamil Nadu to complete the miniature replica of Tirupati temple in Haryana.
  • The Chief Minister said with the construction of this temple, Haryana would also be known for pilgrimage to Balaji at the international level.
  • Earlier, the Chief Minister, Mr  Manohar Lal alongwith the , Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr  Krishan Kumar Bedi,  MLA Thanesar Mr Subhash Sudha, Principal Secretary, Mr TVSN Prasad, IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh Government Mr Pravin Prakash performed puja of Lord Venketeshwara amidst the chants by the Scholar Srinivasa who specially came from Andhra Pradesh alongwith other scholars for the purpose. 
  • On the occasion Principal Secretary TVSN Prasad said that a local committee has also been constituted for managing the affairs of the temple. This temple would remain open from 6 am to 9 pm for the pilgrims.
  • Chandigarh, July 1—The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has  said that he has taken upon himself the  responsibility to ensure that no leader of my party is involved in corruption.  If found out, he would be thrown out.  Similarly, if any official is found involved in corruption he would also not be spared.
  • While addressing a gathering today in Pahadi village in Gurugram district which has been adopted by the IIT Delhi Alumni Asssociation, he said his government had taken a number of steps during the last three-and-a-half years to curb corruption.
  • Asking the people to help the government in curbing this menace, Mr Manohar Lal said jobs in the state were now being given on the basis of merit whereas during the previous governments, it was done on the basis of recommendation. Without taking anybody's name, he said  a former Chief Minister was locked in jail for ten years.
  • The Chief Minister urged the people not to allow themselves to be misled by the opposition and give such forces a befitting reply through the power of ballot  paper
  • He urged the IIT Delhi Alumni Association which adopted Pahadi village in  Gurugram under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan  to bring about transformational change in rural development process by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India, to adopt more villages in the state. The IIT Delhi Alumni Association plans to adopt 150 villages in the country.
  • Later, participating in the Raahgiri programme, he urged the people of Gurugram to take a pledge to make Gurugram Green Gurugram by planting saplings during the monsoon season.  He pedalled his way to the Raahgiri venue to motivate and encourage the people of Gurugram to use non-motorized vehicles.
  • He said the state government had decided to launch a plantation drive in the state under which each student of  6th class to 12th class  would plant  a sapling and take care of it for three years and would be given incentive money of Rs 50 every six months. The sapling would be provided free of cost by the Forest Department.
  • The Chief Minister was presented with a plant by the Vriksh Association of Delhi University.  He planted saplings along the Golf Course Road and signed the board for pledge on plantation.
  • Besides a large number of people, senior journalist, Mr Ved Pratap Vaidik, was also present. He appreciated the Chief Minister for the unique incentive scheme for the school children.
  • Chandigarh July 1: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal has urged  the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to declare road stretch from Haryana-Punjab border-Ratia-Fatehabad with length of 31.658 kilometers falling in Haryana as National Highway.
  • While stating this a spokesman of Public Works (Building and Roads) Department said that the proposed start point for the stretch falling in Haryana is at Haryana-Punjab Border and end point has been proposed at junction of project road with Fatehabad byepass which is part of Delhi-Hisar-Sirsa road NH-9 (Old NH-10). 
  • He said that this road connects NH-9 (Old NH-10) that is Delhi-Hisar-Fazilka road with NH-148B that is Kotputli-Narnaul-Bhiwani-Hansi-Tohana-Jakhal-Budhlada-Mansa-Bathinda road. These two main arteries carry interstate freight traffic from northern India. He said that by declaring Fatehabad-Budhlada road stretch as National Highway and upgrading it to NH standards, connection between the above two National Highways would reduce the travel time and improve the connectivity between Fatehabad (on NH-9) and Budhlada (on NH-148B).
  • He said that it serves as one of the main entry point to Punjab and connects Barnala, Mansa and Ludhiana towns. Besides, it also improves the economic activity from Hisar, Fatehabad and Uklana towns with nearby business centres of Punjab. Ratia and Fatehabad being major towns with an enhanced business activity would further facilitate their growth and development with this connectivity, he added.
  • The spokesman said that apart from the connectivity considerations, the development of this corridor has been perceived to be important from the prospective of enhanced mobility levels or standards of people, and with time more importantly in terms of direct benefit to the community by the way of value of time and vehicle operation cost savings towards achieving overall development in Haryana and districts of Fatehabad, Sirsa, Hisar in particular.
