Chandigarh, August 8- In the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the country's players continued their stellar performance. So far, the country has won a total of 55 medals, including 18 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze medals. Haryana, which is about two percent of the country's population, has maintained its dominance in these sports. This time the maximum 43 players in the Indian team are from Haryana. Out of these, 17 players have brought laurels to the country and the state by winning medals. The Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal has congratulated all the players for bringing laurels to the state and the country by performing brilliantly and wishing them a bright future.

In Commonwealth Games, Amit Panghal and Neetu Ghanghas have won gold in boxing, while Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat and Naveen Kumar have won gold medals in wrestling. Sudhir has secured gold in Para Power Lifting. Anshu Malik has won silver in wrestling, Pooja Gehlot, Pooja Sihag, Deepak Nehra and Mohit Grewal have won bronze in wrestling. Sagar Ahlawat has won silver in boxing and Jasmine Lamboria has won bronze in boxing. Sandeep Kumar has won the Athletics Bronze medal. In the women's hockey team too, the players of Haryana have shown their mettle. The team has brought laurels to the country by winning bronze medals. In the 18-member hockey team, 8 women are from Haryana.

Sh. Manohar Lal is also stunned by the excellent performance of the players of Haryana in the Commonwealth Games. In a statement, he said that in the Commonwealth Games, the players of Haryana have proved themselves this time. The Chief Minister said that the strong players of Haryana have once again proved that the Haryana wrestlers are the best. He said that it is the result of the Sports Policy of the Haryana Government that the players of Haryana won gold medals in the Commonwealth Games. He said that the players of Haryana included in the Indian team have not only proved themselves but have also worked to advance the medal tally. Congratulating all the players, the Chief Minister said that on the basis of their hard work, all these players have brought laurels to the country and the state.

The Chief Minister said that Haryana has given best players to the country in the last many years. Be it boxing or wrestling, there are many sports in which the players of Haryana are performing well. Athletes from Haryana have proved to be the toppers in both men's and women's categories. Sh. Manohar Lal said that the Haryana Government honours the medal winners by giving maximum prize money. He said that the state government will award Rs. 1.5 crore for gold medal, Rs. 75 lakh for silver medal and Rs. 50 lakh for bronze medal to the medal winners in Commonwealth Games. Along with this, the players participating in the Commonwealth Games will be awarded  Rs. 7.50 lakh.
