Chandigarh, August 25- Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal has urged the cattle owners of the state not to panic over Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). He said that adequate arrangements have been made by the State Government to control the virus spread.

Clarifying the rumors regarding the transmission of the LSD virus in humans, the Chief Minister said that the cattle owners should not be afraid of this disease as the disease virus does not spread in humans, even if they are in contact with sick cattle. So they should take care of their livestock without fear, he added.

“Like COVID, Haryana is working on mission mode to control the spread of LSD. Sufficient availability of vaccinations has been ensured made at every level to control the spread of LSD affecting cattle. So far, 2,45,249 cows have been vaccinated against this disease. Regular meetings with the concerned officers are being held for effective disease control”, informed Sh. Manohar Lal while addressing a press conference held here today.

An extensive campaign launched to ensure maximum vaccination

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has launched an extensive campaign to ensure maximum vaccination of the cattle to effectively control LSD.

“Free vaccination of animals is being done in the state. About 20 lakh animals will be vaccinated in the coming days. The Mortality rate from this disease is very low. Only 1 to 5 percent of animals affected with LSD die and among these the animals that are already suffering from other ailments are at greater risk.  While, if the animals get treatment at the beginning of the disease only then they become completely healthy in just 2-3 days,” informed Sh. Manohar Lal.

Current status of LSD affected cattle in the State

Divulging the details about the Current status of LSD-affected cattle, the Chief Minister said that as per records, around 52544 animals of  3497 villages in the state have been affected by this virus. Out of these, 29104 animals have become healthy and so far 633 animals have died.

He further shared that in 286 Gaushalas of the state, 7938 cows are suffering from this disease. Out of these, 126 cows have died. The mortality rate is 1.2 percent, asserted Sh. Manohar Lal.

Ensure adequate preventive measures to contain the virus spread

The Chief Minister has advised the cattle owners to ensure proper fogging in the Gaushalas. He said that as certain species of blood-sucking vectors like mosquitos, ticks, houseflies, etc are the major factors behind the LSD outbreak, hence the cattle owners should keep the animals clean from the attack of these vectors.

“It is extremely important to keep the affected animals isolated from other animals. In order to prevent the disease spread, a ban has been imposed on the movement of cattle by the cowherds. Besides this, the ban has also been imposed on the organizing of Pashu Mela and on the sale of animals. Fogging is being done in all Gaushalas and villages to control flies and mosquitoes,” informed Sh. Manohar Lal.

He said that necessary directions have been given to ensure proper burial of the virus-affected dead animals at a depth of atleast 8 to 10 feet.

Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. D S Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. V. Umashankar, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Dr Amit Agrawal and Administrative Secretaries of concerned department also remained present on this occasion.
