Chandigarh, October 12– The ongoing 36th National Games in Gujarat concluded today, Haryana is third in the medal tally by winning a total of 116 medals including 38 gold medals. In the boxing matches played on the last day, the players of Haryana brought laurels to the state by winning 10 medals including 4 gold medals. The most significant fact is that out of 38 gold medals, Haryana has won 37 gold medals in sports events played in Olympic Games, which is more than twice that of any other state. In the last 3 editions, Haryana has the highest number of medals this time. In the last National Games, Haryana had won 107 games.

However, the Services Sports Control Board continues to top the medal tally. The fact that more than 80% of the medal winners hail from haryana is a matter of pride for the state.

Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal congratulated all the medal winning players on their victory and wished them luck in future competitions. He said that the winning players will be given prizes and jobs as per the sports policy of the state government. 

He said that other states are now adopting Haryana's sports policy as a result of the state's players' dedication and hard work in establishing a strong identity in the sports world. Similarly, the players of the state will continue to illuminate the name of Haryana and India at the national and international level through their outstanding performance.

Sh. Manohar Lal said that Haryana, which represents more than one third of India's medal winning sportspersons in Olympic Games, is committed to producing more Olympians. Also, with the cooperation of the state government and sports institutions, there is a need to pay more attention to those sports in which Haryana is still lagging behind. Haryana is committed to promote sports and focus on the holistic development of its players.

Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sardar Sandeep Singh also congratulated the players for this achievement. He said that the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal is committed to promote sports continuously and provide all kinds of assistance to the sportspersons.

He further said that Haryana's soil is where sports are deep rooted. The children here have always outperformed in sports. All they need is the right platform and coach, which will turn them into future role models. The Haryana Government is making strenuous efforts to improve the skills of the players and promote sports.

Won 4 gold medals in boxing events

The players of Haryana made the state proud by winning 4 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals in the boxing matches held on the last day of National Games. Vineet and Ankit won gold medals in the 80 kg weight category. In boxing, girls also did not lag behind. Meenakshi and Poonam both won gold medals.

Apart from these, Sachin has won silver medal in 57 kg weight category, Naveen has won silver medal in 92 kg weight category, Sagar has won silver medal in 67 kg weight category and Jasmine and Sweety have also won silver medals. Mohit won the bronze medal.

Excellent performance of Haryana players in the National Games

More than 600 players from Haryana showed their enthusiasm in these national games held in Gujarat. The players have added new achievements in the name of the state by performing excellently in the National Games. Archery team won the title of champion by performing outstanding in their event. The team collectively outperformed by securing 5 gold medals. Not only this, Haryana has also become the overall champion in the net ball game.

No other state could compete with Haryana players in wrestling, which is the most popular sport in Haryana. Haryana has won 7 silver and 4 bronze medals including 12 gold in wrestling.

A total of 116 medals including 38 gold in Haryana's account
