Chandigarh, November 15: Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal today extended his greetings and best wishes to the media fraternity on the occasion of National Press Day. The Chief Minister said that the media, which is the fourth pillar of democracy; plays an important role in taking the works of the government and public welfare policies to the people.

He said that the today's era of information technology has made the work of the media easy, but still a reporter should verify the facts before releasing the news, as information on social media is shared in a jiffy and eventually requires vigilance.

Sh. Manohar Lal further said that the first Press Commission was established in the year 1956 and all the mediapersons work according to the rules laid down by the Press Council of India. Acknowledging the media fraternity, he said that even in adverse circumstances, the mediapersons risk their lives to deliver real-time news to the public.

“There has always been special respect and honour towards the mediapersons in the society. The Haryana government has also initiated various welfare schemes for the journalists; which include monthly pension, life insurance and other facilities to senior mediapersons,” he asserted.

He also expressed hope that the media fraternity will continue to work with the same enthusiasm and impartiality to make the people of the country and the state aware.
