Chandigarh, February 5: Continuing with its spectacular performance in the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games in Madhya Pradesh; Haryana stays at the top of the table with 22 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Congratulating the winning players, Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal said that the players have once again proved that Haryana is the super power of sports in the country.

“It is clear from the results of the competitions that Haryana is full of sports talents; that is why we are constantly working to promote sports in every village,” he said, adding that the state government will provide all sports facilities to every player in future also and will make Haryana a nursery of sports.

The Chief Minister said that this is the result of Haryana's strong sports policy, due to which gold medals are coming in abundance in the Youth Games. He said that last time, the state government had also doubled the prize money given to the winners of the Khelo India Youth Games. The player winning gold medal was given Rs 1 lakh, Rs 60,000 to the silver medalist and Rs 40,000 to the bronze medalist.

Not only this, Rs 5,000 were also given as incentive to the sportspersons of the state for participating in the games. “It is the effect of the sports policy that the players of the state are continuously performing brilliantly,” he asserted.

The 5th Khelo India Youth Games will continue till February 11 in eight cities of Madhya Pradesh. About 6,000 players from the country are participating in 27 sports.

Haryana has won 15 medals including 8 gold in boxing and 4 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze medals in athletics. In shooting the state has won 2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze; while 3 gold and one silver in cycling. Two gold medals in badminton, one gold medal in volleyball and two gold medals in archery have been achieved so far.
