Chandigarh, May 21: Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal said that Road Safety Week will be observed in the state from today and under this, work will be done on the black spots of the roads in all the districts and activities related to road safety will be organized.
The Chief Minister made this announcement while addressing the Raahgiri Day event as the chief guest, near Mount Olympus School in Gurugram’s Sector 79 on Sunday.
Commending the Raahgiri programme, Sh. Manohar Lal said that about nine years ago, this programme was started from Gurugram, which is now being organized all over the country. Raahgiri programme is being successfully organized in Karnal, Rohtak, Hisar, Sirsa, Rewari, Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, among other districts. So far, 1.30 crore people have become participants in this programme. “The purpose of organizing such programmes is to take the society in a positive direction. People are getting to learn good things in every programme,” he added.
The Chief Minister exhorted the youth to use their energy positively. He said that when Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi gave the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ from Panipat, work was done on it with the same positivity in the state. Under this, there has been a remarkable improvement in the gender ratio in the state today. To inspire youth power, historic marathon in Sirsa, Pinkathon for women in Panipat and other remarkable events have also been organized in other cities.
During the programme, the Chief Minister called upon the people to contribute in making Gurugram a beautiful city. He said that Gurugram is a world class city of the state and the government is making all out efforts to improve its infrastructure. “The government has worked to expand the state-of-the-art means of transport in this city - the metro service. With this, the process of setting up a metro rail link from Rezang La Chowk to Delhi's Dwarka along with Panchgaon, Manesar, Global City, Dwarka Expressway etc. is being taken forward,” he said. He also announced the construction of tracks for cycles and pedestrians on both sides of the road where Raahgiri will be held.
Chief Minister tries his hand in wrestling-kabaddi
This time special focus was given on activities related to sports in the Raahgiri programme. Flagging off the Walk-Cycle-Run at the programme, the Chief Minister reached the main venue by riding a bicycle. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also tried his hand at wrestling and kabaddi during the demo of the games. He also interacted with the players of Boxing, Gatka, Tug of War, Badminton etc and clicked photographs with them.
The Chief Minister appreciated the presentations of school children during the programme. He also visited the site of first aid demonstration by the Civil Defence team and inquired about the CPR technique given to the patient. Meanwhile, international players Manu Bhaker, Shivani Kataria and Divyanshi, along with various inspiring people reached the Raahgiri programme.
On the occasion, Pataudi MLA, Sh. Satya Prakash Jrawta, Sohna MLA, Sh. Sanjay Singh, Chief Minister's Special Officer (Community Policing and Outreach), Sh. Pankaj Nain, Chief Minister's Adviser (Public Safety), Sh. Anil Rao, Gurugram Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Police, Sh. Vikas Arora, along with other dignitaries were also present.
