Chandigarh, September 1-  Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal has commended the Prime Minister-led Central Government's decision to form a committee to explore the feasibility of the One Nation-One Election. Notably, the committee would be chaired by former President, Sh. Ram Nath Kovind.

Sh. Manohar Lal, while welcoming this unique initiative taken by the Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been a long-standing advocate of One Nation-One Election. He said that the committee formed to explore the possibility of a One Nation-One Election in the country is definitely a valuable initiative. This committee will give its report after considering this subject, under which the benefits of the One Nation-One Election will be revealed.

“The successful implementation of One Nation-One Election initiative would bring about numerous benefits for India, including substantial financial savings, improved governance, reduced corruption, and a more robust democratic process,” said Sh. Manohar Lal.

Taxpayers' money will be saved with One Nation-One election

The Chief Minister while highlighting several key benefits associated with the One Nation-One Election initiative said that synchronizing elections at all levels of government would result in substantial savings of taxpayers' money, which could then be redirected toward public welfare initiatives.

One Nation One Election will play a key role in reducing disruptions

The Chief Minister said that the frequent occurrence of elections hampers governance due to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct, hindering timely policy decisions. Implementing One Nation-One Election would alleviate such disruptions, allowing governments to focus on the greater good.

Simultaneous elections will also curb corruption and black money

Sh. Manohar Lal further asserted that simultaneous elections would effectively curb corruption and the circulation of illicit funds within the electoral process. Besides this, holding elections concurrently would increase voter engagement and fortify India's democratic foundations, he added.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister referenced historical context, citing the recommendations made by the Election Commission of India, the Law Commission in its 1999 report, and the Standing Committee of the Parliament in 2015 and 2018.
