- Chandigarh June 27 - Indian Ambassadors to two countries who hail from Haryana made a courtesy call on the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, here today and discussed various issues of mutual cooperation.
- While India’s Ambassador to Slovenia, Mr Param Jit Mann, hails from village Mundhal in district Bhiwani, our Ambassador to Armenia,
- Mr Yogeshwar Sangwan, hails from village Kharman in district Jhajjar.
- The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has taken an initiative under which Indian Ambassadors posted in different countries have been allotted states to explore the possibilities of co-operation in the fields of mutual interest, and also promote the state in their countries.
- Mr Manohar Lal said Haryana enjoyed huge capacity for storage of foodgrains. Considering this fact, the state government is contemplating to export rice, wheat and sugar directly to other countries.
- Directions have been issued to Hafed to explore the possibilities in this regard, he said, adding that a delegation led by him comprising officers of Hafed visited Dubai last year where detailed discussion was held in this regard.
- India’s Ambassador to Slovenia, Mr Param Jit Mann, said treatment of waste water and bee-keeping could be the two areas of mutual cooperation between Slovenia and Haryana.
- Slovenia which has a population of 25 lakh has expertise in the technology of water treatment and bee-keeping. It is the only country where clean drinking water is the fundamental right of citizens.
- Mr Manohar Lal said an 'Integrated Bee-keeping Development Centre' had been set up at Ramnagar in Kurukshetra with the assistance of Israel. Apart from this, centres of excellence in fruits, vegetables and flowers have also been set up in the state under an Indo-Israel project.
- Indian Ambassador to Armenia, Mr Yogeshwar Sangwan, said Armenia’s is primarily agriculture-based economy, and both Haryana and Armenia could collaborate in the fields of organic farming and IT. Indians are provided with on-arrival visa facility by the Armenian Government. There are many cities in Armenia which are over 2,000-years-old, he added.
- Among those present at the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr Devender Singh, and Director-cum-Special Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Mr Ashok Sangwan.
- Chandigarh, June 27—With a view to ensuring effective management of water that flows during the drinking water supply, drainage of dirty water and prevent water pollution, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has approved a proposal to fix the responsibility of Chief Engineer in Municipal Corporation, Executive Engineer in Municipal Council, and Secretary in Municipality as that of the Head of Department.
- Disclosing this, the Urban and Local Bodies Minister, Mrs Kavita Jain, said here today that now officers concerned in all municipalities would ensure proper management of water under Section 48 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
- She said that an officer has been deputed at local level as Head of Department in Public Health Engineering Department and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) to put a check on water pollution.
- The Director General of Urban Local Bodies Department has been authorized to ensure compliance of fixed parameters under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 as head of the department.
- The Chief Minister has approved the proposal to fix the responsibility of Chief Engineer or Senior Engineer in his absence in Municipal Corporation, Executive Engineer in Municipal Council, and Secretary in municipality as head of the department.
- She said that these officers have been directed to keep a check on wastage of water and to discharge their duties with complete dedication to ensure proper drainage of dirty water. She also urged the people to cooperate with administration in water conservation and make it a daily habit to save water.
