  • Chandigarh, Mar 25-The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal,  said here today that the state government would give monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to differently-abled persons from next year and that the country’s first Paralympic Bhawan would be build at Faridabad at a cost of Rs 3.11 crore.
  • The Chief Minister was addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony of the 18th National Para Athletics Championships 2018, held at Panchkula, near here, today.
  • Congratulating the para athletes from different states participating in this event, Mr Manohar Lal said the presence of para athletes in large numbers highlighted national unity of our country. He interacted with para athletes of different states in their respective language.
  • The Chief Minister said in order to ensure all-round development of youth and to make them skilled, different types of training is being provided under the Haryana Skill Development Mission. Training would be imparted to 20 lakh differently-abled persons to make them employable. There are 2.68 crore differently-abled persons in the country and concerted efforts are being made by the Central and  state governments to provide them basic facilities to make them self-reliant.
  • The Union Minister of State for Planning, Rao Inderjit Singh, who is also President of the Paralympic Committee of India and Para Sports Association of Haryana, said the Central and state governments had been taking new initiatives to encourage sportspersons.
  • Expressing his gratitude to the Chief Minister, Rao Inderjit Singh said the event had been made possible only due to his efforts. Para athletes of Haryana have been bringing laurels to the state and the country. It is only in the fitness of things that the National Para  Athletics Championship is being organised in the state.
  • He appreciated the new sports policy framed by the Haryana Government and said that cash prizes being given to sportspersons in the state had mainly contributed to the considerable increase in their participation in national and international level competitions.
  • Others present included MP, Mr. Rattan Lal Kataria, Haryana Minister of State for Public Health Engineering, Dr. Banwari Lal, and MLA Panchkula, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta.
