  • Chandigarh August 7: In a bid to promote value based ancient Gurukul education system in the State, Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal announced that the State Government would provide land free of cost to those Gurukuls which would provide free education to the children. Besides, it would also assist in making all necessary arrangements required to run such Gurukuls including the teachers.
  • Mr Manohar Lal was speaking as a Chief Guest in a programme on ‘Relevance of the Gurukul system in the present era’ organized by Panchnad Shodh Sansthan, Chandigarh here.
  • While underlining the significance of Gurukuls in providing education based  on renunciation and dedication to the children, the Chief Minister said that instead of confining just to the 3R education that is reading, writing, and 'arithmetic, the moral values, yoga, patriotism should be made a part of education system for the overall development of children. He said that as per the ancient system, it was the moral responsibility in our society to provide facilities of health and education to the people free of cost but ironically today on one hand the common man lacked ample resources to get these facilities, the resourceful or rich people spent immense wealth for such facilities.
  • The Chief Minister said that the State Government has taken several steps for bringing about a qualitative change in the education system. A major chunk of the State budget is spent on providing free education to the children. Now, the State Government has also constituted a 21 members State Higher Education Council under the Chairmanship of Prof B.K. Kuthiala, to create an enabling environment for promoting academic excellence. He also advocated abolishing the no detention policy for class first to eighth in schools saying that the system has adversely affected the studying habit of students as they have no fear of failing in the examinations.
  • He said that Haryana has made its mark in various spheres world over. Earlier, the Gita Jayanti Samaroh was organized in Kurukshetra at a much smaller scale. The present State Government has been organizing Gita Jayanti Samaroh of international level. People from 25 countries have participated in the Samaroh during the last three years. He said that this year, programmes of Gita Jayanti Samaroh would also be organized in Mauritius and United Kingdom (UK). Invitation has been received from these countries in this regard, he added.
  • Earlier, speaking on this occasion, Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh Dr Jagat Ram described Gurukul education as the best education system which aims at the overall development of children. He also stressed the need to include the issues pertaining to human values in the present education system.
  • Director, Panchnad Shodh Sansthan Prof B.K. Kuthiala said that the Panchnad Shodh Sansthan was set up in the year 1984-85 with an aim to maintain a sense of harmony in the society. He said that at present 32 Shodh Sansthan are functional in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir where the intellectual wing of the sansthan hold discussions on scores of social , cultural and political issues.
  • Executive President of Panchnad Shodh Sansthan, Dr Krishan Arya thrown light on the relevance of gurukul education in the society. He said that gurukul education is based on Guru-Shishya tradition.
  • Main speaker of the programme, Mr Mukul Kanitkar said that at present more than 4000 Gurukuls are functioning in the country. He said that to implement the Gurukul system of education, atmosphere in schools, colleges and universities needs to be changed. Laying special emphasis on the promotion of Sanskrit language, he said that the entire world is going to adopt Gurukul educat.
  • Chandigarh August 7—The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Lance Naik Vikram Jit Singh (26) of village Tepla, Ambala district, who attained martyrdom while fighting with terrorists in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir, yesterday.
  • He is survived by his father Mr Baljinder Singh, mother Mrs Kamlesh Kaur, wife Harpreet Kaur, and younger brother Monu Singh.
  • In a condolence message issued here today, the Chief Minister hailed Vikram Jit Singh as a brave soldier who showed indomitable courage while fighting the terrorist and laid down his life to safeguard our motherland.  
  • “The sacrifice made by Vikram Jit Singh would not go in vain and he would always be remembered for his courage and bravery”, the Chief Minister said. His mortal remains would be brought to his native village Tepla, on Wednesday.  
  • Mr Manohar Lal conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty that his soul might rest in peace.
  • Lance Naik Vikram Jit Singh who joined the Army five years ago, was serving in 36 Rastriya Rifles. His younger brother Monu is serving the Army as Sepoy and is currently posted in Assam.
  • Chandigarh August 7: Haryana Government has decided to change the name of Government College for Girls, Kheri Chopta, Hisar to Co-educational college in public interest.
  • While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal has approved a proposal in this regard. The Chief Minister has approved 31 Government College for Women in the State and sanctioned has been issued regarding starting these government colleges.
  • He said that Chief Minister has also approved a proposal regarding change of name of Government College to be set up at Kurukshetra as Government College for Women, Palwal, district Kurukshetra instead of Government College for Women, Kurukshetra on the request of residents of village Palwal who have offered land for the construction of this college without any condition/price.
  • The spokesman said that the Chief Minister has also approved a proposal to lease out proposed land measuring 7 acre 4 Kanal and 7 Marla of Gram Panchayat  Khanda Kheri to Director Students Welfare-cum-Estate Officer, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar instead of Animal Husbandry Department, for setting up of Regional Centre of LUVAS. The Chief Minister has also approved a proposal for the transfer of land measuring 11 Kanal 15 Marla and 27 Marla of village panchayat Badhanki, district Gurugram to Intensive Cattle Development Project and Dairy on a lease period of 33 years at the rate of Rs one per acre per year   for the construction of Government Veterinary Hospital and for its passage respectively.
  • Chandigarh, Aug 7–The Haryana Transport Minister, Mr. Krishan Lal Panwar, has said that the state government is taking all possible steps, including pressing more buses on different routes, to ensure that the passengers and commuters do not face any difficulty due the strike by some employees of the Haryana Roadways.
  • “There is no proposal to privatise Roadways services. Presently, about 500 buses of the department and 950 buses of cooperative societies are plying smoothly in the state. I am in constant touch with officers and the state government is making concerted efforts to ensure that the people do not face any inconvenience”, he added.
  • Reacting to the decision of the unions to go on strike, Mr Panwar said he had held a meeting with office-bearers of workers’ unions 15 days ago where 33 out of their 34 demands were accepted, and the office-bearers had also thanked the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, and the state government.
  • On the view of the unions that the state government would hire 720 buses and carry out privatization of the department, the minister clarified that privatization was not on the table. 
  • Haryana Roadways has a fleet of 4,100 buses. The state government added 600 buses to the fleet in 2017-18 and it has been decided to add 650 buses during 2018-19. The Chief Minister has approved this proposal and now the matter would be sent to the High Power Purchase Committee.
  • Mr Panwar said every year about 250 to 300 buses outlived their shelf life and these were declared waste on the completion of seven years, or for having covered eight lakh kilometres. The drivers of 720 buses which are being hired would be deputed by the bus owners whereas conductors would be deputed by the department. Permit of the buses would be issued by the Transport Department and the General Manager would have entire control over them.
  • The bus drivers would be provided rate according to the tender of 300 kilometres, and the sale of tickets would be done by the department. Therefore, the question of privatization does not arise, he added.
  • Mr. Panwar said the unions had approached the High Court against the LOA granted by the department. The Director General of Transport and Director General of Police were also called for the hearing. Now, the next date of hearing is August 20, 2018, and the department would abide by whatever decision the court gives.  
  • The decision to hire buses was taken by the state Cabinet to facilitate the passengers. Under this scheme, 53 transporters had approached the department and out of 720 buses LOA was issued to 510 buses. About 33 lakh people avail themselves of the state transport facility every day whereas the department has been providing services to only 12.5 lakh people.
  • There is need to run about 15,000 buses every day, but the state government is unable to purchase such a large number of buses at one go. Buses declared waste are being made roadworthy again.
  • The drivers recruited in 2018 and are on probation and action would be initiated against them if they go on strike. If any employee who is on probation joins the strike, his services could be terminated, the minister added.
