  • Chandigarh, Aug 29 – With a view to realizing the vision of Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022, the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar has encouraged the farmers to diversify their crops from traditional farming to peri urban-agriculture. After organising three consecutive Krishi Shikhar Sammelans in the state to make farmers learn the work tactics of the market, now it has been decided to hold conference of World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) at Gurugram from October 10 to 12, 2018.
  • Mr. Dhankar was presiding over review meeting in this regard with officers of the Department and Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB), here today.
  • Mr. Dhankar said that this would be first conference of WUWM in India and Haryana has got this opportunity to host the conference. He said that representatives of 49 countries were expected to participate in this conference. The conference would be inaugurated by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Mr. Radha Mohan Singh and Union Minister for External Affairs, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj would be present at the concluding ceremony. Apart from this, Agriculture Ministers of all states, Chairpersons of Agricultural Marketing Boards and officers would also be invited for this conference.
  • He said that the main aim of holding this conference was to get completed the work on international fruits and vegetable mandi being set up at Ganaur as representatives of big mandis of the world would share their experiences in the conference.
  • Others present in the meeting included Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Director, Mr. D.K. Behera, Chief Administrator, HSAMB, Mr. Hardeep Singh and other senior officers.
