  • Chandigarh, Aug 29 – Haryana Minister of State for Public Health Engineering, Dr. Banwari Lal said that reused treated water would be supplied to places such as thermal plants, industries, agriculture and horticulture where extensive water use is needed to save water. For this purpose, Reuse Treated Water Policy would soon be framed and implemented.
  • Dr. Banwari Lal was speaking in a workshop organised here today to make sewerage system successful in rural areas of the state.
  • He said that the State Government had, on the occasion of Swarna Jayanti of Haryana, launched Mahagram Yojana which aims at providing sewerage facility in rural areas. At present, the sewerage facility under the scheme is being provided to those villages where population was more than 10,000 as per the 2011 census. There are 116 villages in the state which have more than 10,000 population and nine villages have been taken up in the first phase and work was under progress in these villages. Under the second phase, 11 more villages have been added for which technical proposal and Detailed Project Report (DPR) have been approved. As many as 37 villages have been included under the third phase and their DPRs were being prepared, he added.
  • The Minister said that it was necessary to make people aware about sewerage system. He said that a government scheme cannot succeed without cooperation and approval of the people. Therefore, people should not take this as government scheme rather adopt it as a campaign with public participation.
  • He said that during the tenure of present State Government, 136 canal based waterworks have made functional in rural and urban areas. Apart from this, 2,055 tubewells and 436 boosting stations have been made functional and 7,857 km long pipelines were laid and drinking water supply was improved and strengthened in 2,054 villages. Apart from this, a pilot project has also been proposed for installation of community taps and reverse osmosis plant in unauthorised colonies.
  • According to the latest survey, out of 740 dhanis water supply has already been provided to 608 dhanis and of the remaining 132 dhanis, work was under progress on 21 dhanis and this work would be got completed by March 31, 2019.
