  • Chandigarh, September 2- Haryana Chief Minister,Mr. Manohar Lal said that the state government is committed to provide water till the tailends of canals in remote areas of Southern Haryana. A Rs 143-crore scheme has been initiated for the restoration of Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Feeder, the lifeline of this area. Not only is this, for the last two years, water is being continuously supplied up to 30,000 acre feet in Masani barrage constructed on Sahibi River in Rewari district.
  • The Chief Minister was interacting with media persons after inspecting the Jawaharlal Nehru Feeder in Salhawas in district Jhajjar today.
  • The Chief Minister today inspected pump house and inaugurated ‘Neer’ Swarn Jayanati Vishram Greh, Salhawas constructed at the cost of over Rs1.95 crore. He also interacted with villagers at the farm of Ramnarayan, who is farming through micro irrigation system and conserving energy by installing solar pump set in village Salhawas.
  • While inspecting the pump house, the Chief Minister also honoured 102-year-old Kanwar Singh, resident Ridau (Sonipat) with a shawl. Kanwar Singh had worked on daily wages of six paise only, during the digging work of JLN Feeder Canal started in 1939.
  • He said that the state has shortage of water but if the available water is utilized optimally then during rainy days, water could be collected in ponds and water reservoirs which could be utilized when required.
  • He said that to overcome the shortage of water, recently six states, including Haryana, have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding Lakhwar Dam. This dam would be ready in two years and Haryana would have 47  per cent share in its water. Giving details of the restoration of JLN feeder, he said that first time, after its construction in1977, the present government has made a provision of Rs. 143 crore on its restoration. He said that after lifting from Salhawas pump house, water is supplied till the tail end of 460 feet at Nangal Chaudhary in Mahendergarh district of JLN.
  • He said that there are 10 pump houses from Salhawas till the tail end. With the restoration of all, the water capacity of canal has also increased to 3,100 cusecs. At the same time, a successful attempt was made to rejuvenate Sahibi, Krishnavati, Dohan rivers in southern Haryana  and many villages benefited from ground water recharge.
  • After this, the Chief Minister interacted with the farmers who had adopted Solar Power and Micro Irrigation in Salhawas. Under the Pilot Project, 565 farmers were provided Solar power operated sets at  90 percent grant under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The government has given a grant of Rs 18 crore to the project costing about Rs 20 crore. The Chief Minister congratulated the farmers on adopting solar powered technology.
  • Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar also expressed his happiness over the restoration work of JLN feeder.
