- Chandigarh, September 10: Haryana Government will take initiatives for setting up a cold chain across the State and explore the possibility of associating progressive farmer organisations. Ch. Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar and Mega Food Park at Barhi would be utilized for this initiative.
- This was informed during the Clean Cold Chain Workshop organized by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare here today.
- Managing Director, HSIIDC Mr T.L. Satyaprakash and officers from University of Birmingham, officers of British High Commission, senior officers of Horticulture, Agriculture, Haryana State Agriculture and Marketing Board (HSAMB), Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Petroleum Conservation Research Association participated in the workshop.
- It was informed that the cold chain would be an integrated and seamless network of refrigerated and temperature controlled pack houses, distribution hubs and vehicles used to maintain the safety, quality and quantity of food, while moving it swiftly from farm gate to consumption centre. It would not only reduce post-harvest food loss, but also allow farmers to earn more by maintaining the quality of their produce and selling it further afield. The State Government has given special emphasis on doubling farmers' income by 2022.
- It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal had undertaken a visit to UK in the month of May 2018 with senior level delegation from Haryana for investment purposes. As a part of investment activity a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during visit between the University of Birmingham and Government of Haryana (GOH) for facilitating New Cold Chain Technology in Haryana alongwith other cold chain modules and also working on an advance new technology to help meet rising demand for cooling sustainably through Cold chain.
