  • Chandigarh September 11: In a major relief to the electricity consumers in the State, Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal announced to reduce the power tariff on monthly consumption of upto 200 units from Rs 4.50 per unit to Rs 2.50 per unit.  Announcing further relaxation for the people belonging to poor families, he said that in case a family limits its monthly electricity consumption upto 50 units, the electricity rate would then be applicable at the rate of Rs 2 per unit. 
  • Mr Manohar Lal made these announcement on the third day of ongoing session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
  • He said that the reduced tariff would ensure saving of Rs 437 per month to the consumers, which constitute about 46.6 per cent. 
  • The Chief Minister said that it is a historic decision and would benefit 41.53 lakh domestic consumers in the State. He said that with these announcements he had fulfilled his earlier promise to reduce the power tariff in the State. 
  • He said that during the last about four years, the State Government has taken several initiatives. In some of them, Haryana is leading in the country.  We have made Haryana kerosene free and also launched Saksham Yojna to provide 100 hour guaranteed work to educated unemployed youth. Apart from introducing the concept of educated Panchayats in the State, the State Government has also further strengthened the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) especially the Zila Parishads by decentralization of powers.   Inter District Council has been constituted and the budget of Zila Parishads has been enhanced to Rs 10 crore and next year it would further be increased to Rs 25 crore.
  • He said that various pensions have been made online for the convenient for the beneficiaries. While referring to the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme, he said that as a result of the cooperation of people, the sex ratio which was 837 girls per 1000 boys has now reached to 914 girls per 1000 boys.
