- Chandigarh September 19: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal has directed to carry out a massive cleanliness drive in the state focusing specially on all the MahaGrams which shall be made absolutely clean before the birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2018. Apart from this, on the same day, four lakh person including two lakh school students would participate in the massive cleanliness drive to be carried out across the State.
- The Chief Minister gave these directions during the third meeting of Governing Body of Haryana State Swachh Bharat Mission here today. Development and Panchayats Minister, Mr O.P Dhankar was also present in the meeting.
- It was decided in the meeting that the cleanliness drive in the Mahagrams would be carried out by the Development and Panchayats Department. Apart from this, senior officers under the Parivartan Scheme would undertake atleast two villages each from designated 47 blocks and ensure cleanliness.
- While laying special emphasis on the general cleanliness, the Chief Minister said that the streets in villages and towns should be cleaned on daily basis. He said that special campaign should be organized in the State for the cleanliness of hospitals, schools and other institutions in which active participation of schools, NGOs, NSS, NCC and other voluntary organizations should also be ensured. He said that Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has launched ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement' from September 15 to mark the commencement of celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary on October 2, which will run for next two years.
- It was apprised in the meeting that Haryana has been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) and now the State is heading towards ODF plus. The main focus of the scheme is on sustainability of ODF status and solid and liquid waste management in rural areas. It was informed that as per reports of Household Survey for Assessment of Toilet Coverage under Swacch Bharat Mission-Gramin conducted by Quality Council of India, usage of toilet is 100 per cent in Haryana. As many as 1360 solid and liquid waste management projects amounting to Rs 360 crore in respect of 22 districts have been sanctioned from April 1, 2015 to till date.
- While reviewing the Swatchh Bharat Mission (Urban), the Chief Minister directed the Urban Local Bodies Department to make provision of additional community toilets so that these could be utilized as and when needed. It was informed that all the Urban Local Bodies in the State have been divided in 14 clusters for integrated solid waste management. Out of these clusters, four are waste to energy based and ten clusters are waste to compost. The project has already been awarded for two waste to energy clusters that is Gurugram-Faridabad and Sonipat-Panipat. The work is in progress for both the cluster, door to door collection is being done in 75 per cent wards and about 90 per cent secondary collection and transportation of waste is being done in both the clusters.
- Among those present in the meeting included Chief Secretary Mr D.S Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary Health Mr R.R Jowel, Additional Chief Secretary School Education Mrs Dheera Khandelwal, Additional Chief Secretary Public Health and Engineering Mr Rajiv Arora, Principal Secretary Finance Mr TVSN Prasad, Principal Secretary Town and Country Planning Mr A.K Singh and other senior officers of the State Government.
