  • Chandigarh, Sept 20 – In a major crackdown on drug peddlers, Haryana Police have seized over 456 kg ganja while it was being smuggled to Jind district in a truck. Police had also arrested two persons in this connection.
  • Giving this information here today, a spokesman of Police Department said that following a tip-off, the truck was intercepted by a team of Crime Investigation Agency near Ramrai village in Jind and recovered 456 kg 870 gram ganja. This is the second biggest haul in Jind this year after 386 kg ganja in August 25.
  • He said that arrested accused were identified as Rajesh, a resident of village Data in Hisar and truck driver Kapil, a native of village Lohari Raghu, Hisar. 
  • During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Rajesh and two others are partners in this illegal trade. They used to bring ganja from Orissa and Chhattisgarh border in truck belonging to Anil, a native of village Dhana in Hansi, and supply it in Jind area. Monu, a resident of Jagdalpur was middlemen in this trade.
  • He said that Police are interrogating the accused to know where and to whom they were supposed to deliver such huge quantity of narcotics. The police have registered a case under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
  • Director General of Police, Mr B.S. Sandhu congratulated the district police for the wonderful work done for freeing the district of drug menace. He also directed all district SPs to completely crush the menace of drug peddling as well as its distribution network in their respective areas while making major crackdowns with iron hands on persons involved in such incidents.
  • It may be recalled that Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, had recently taken a big initiative of formulating a joint strategy to fight the drug menace by holding a regional conference with his counterparts of neighbouring states
