  • Chandigarh, 20 September – This is good news for the students who were unable to secure a seat in B.Tech this year and aspiring to get admission in J.C. Bose (erstwhile YMCA) University of Science and Technology, YMCA Faridabad. The University has, under Community College of Skill Development, started new three-year Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc) degree programs in manufacturing, automobile, electrical and web designing, and invited applications for the same by September 28, 2018.
  • While giving information in this regard, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that this is a golden opportunity for such students who could not get admission in the main streams of Engineering for some reasons and wanted to pursue their career in technical field. All courses of B. Voc. being offered by the Colleges are recognised by the UGC as equivalent to any graduation degree.
  • He said that the aim of the Community College being run by the University is to make students belonging to weaker sections employable through skill development. Therefore, this is an exceptional opportunity for such students who could not afford the high fee of various coaching institutions for the competitive exams, and will allow them to stand at par with other B.Tech students. Further, they will also get chance of campus placement just like the B.Tech students, he added.
  • The Vice-Chancellor said that the new vocational courses have been designed keeping in view the industrial demand, which would ensure employment opportunities to students taking admissions to these courses.
  • Principal, Community College, Dr. Sanjeev Goyal said that all the courses of B.Voc including manufacturing, automobile, electrical and web designing have been started with an intake of 50 seats each with the provision of multiple exit and entry. Under the provision, if a student leaves the three year B.Voc course after successfully completion of first year, the students will get Diploma in Vocational. Similarly, after successfully completion of second year, the student will get Advanced Diploma in Vocational and, after successfully completion of three year course; the student will get Bachelor of Vocational Degree equivalent to a Graduate Degree. The degree of Bachelor of Vocational will make student eligible for government and other jobs, which require graduate degree, he added.
  • Dr. Goyal said that the annual fee for the course is Rs. 10,000 and concession in fees will be given to the students belonging to reserved categories, physically challenged, girls and meritorious students.
  • He informed that the University had started the Community College in year 2013. The College provides full assistance to students for employment and self-employment, and so far the placement record of college has been excellent. Most of the courses started by the College are in industrial and academic collaboration and will help the students to get jobs after completion of course, he added.
