  • Chandigarh, September 26- Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar said that organization of sports events like water sports, not only keep mental stress at bay for the police personnels but also develop their skills. Under new sports policy, the state government has created a sports conducive environment, and this year, 22 medals in Commonwealth Games and 17 medals in Asian Games were bagged by sportspersons of Haryana.
  • The Chief Minister was addressing the people on the concluding day of 18th All India Police Water Sports Championship under the aegis of Indo Tibetan Border Police at Sukhna Lake, here today. The Chief Minister lauded the organizers and participants for the successful organization of water sports event despite of heavy rains for three days.
  • He said that in view of importance of sports, the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi had started the  Khelo India programme in 2017, to find the budding talent and grooming sports persons. Under which, in order to promote sports at school level, every year 1,000 excellent players are selected and they are given sports facilities and financial assistance.  
  • He said, it is the result of far-sighted vision of our Prime Minister, that this year, our sportspersons glorified the name of our country in the world by bagging 26 gold medals out of the total medal tally of 66 in Commonwealth Games and 69 medals Asian Games.
  • He said that the Haryana Government has not only introduced new awards in the new sports policy but has also increased the prize money. There is provision of 3 per cent reservation for eligible sportspersons in Class-I, II and III and 10 per cent reservation in the direct recruitment in Class-IV posts. From October 2014 to up till now, the state government has distributed award money of Rs 242.83 crore to 8,363 players participating in various national and international sports events.
  • In this Championship, 22 teams of various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) or States Police participated with representation of 452 competitors including 34 women. Various events of Rowing, Kayaking and Canoeing were conducted from September 22 to 26, 2018, during the championship.
  • On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed medals and trophies to the winners.
