- Chandigarh, September 25 – Haryana Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal here today accorded approval to the Haryana Canal and Drainage (Amendment) Rules, 2018.
- The Haryana Canal and Drainage Rules, 1976 were enacted to fulfill the needs of management of water in equitable manner. There are various provisions which define the action to be taken for violation of said rules and also elaborate the functioning for smooth and safe running of irrigation channels and distributaries.
- The Committee on Subordinate Legislation for the year 2013-14 was nominated by the Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Mr Jagbir Singh Malik, MLA was appointed as the Chairperson of the Committee. Besides watching the implementation work relating to earlier reports, the Committee scrutinized the Haryana Canal and Drainage Rules, 1976 framed under the Haryana Canal and Drainage Act, 1974 and made its observations and recommendations on the relevant Rules under scrutiny.
- The recommendations of the Committee as agreed upon by Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Haryana are framed in the Haryana Canal and Drainage (Amendment) Rules, 2018.
- Under the amendment, the demand statement (Khatauni) would be accessible to villagers. The demand statement (Khatauni) with the Patwari of the village would be opened at such place, date and time as may be specified by the Patwari for inspection of the persons who are liable to pay water charges.
