  • Chandigarh, Jan 12 – Haryana Governor Mr. Satyadeo Narain Arya and Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal have extended their warm greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and Lohri and wished for their happiness and prosperity.
  • In a message issued here today, the Governor, Mr. Satyadeo Narain Arya described the festivals as harbingers of peace, progress, prosperity and universal brotherhood.
  • The Chief Minister described the festival as a part of our composite cultural heritage which strengthens the communal harmony and cultural fabric of the country. Such festivals should be celebrated with zeal and traditional fervor, he added.
  • Chandigarh, Jan 12: With a view to celebrate Golden jubilee year 2018-19, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) units of Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh will organize a Walkathon on January 13.
  • While giving information an official spokesman of CISF said that a 10 km Walkathon from  Sukhna Lake  Sports Club to  Matka Chowk, Chandigarh would be flagged off by Haryana Director General of Information, Public Relations and  Languages Department, Mr Sameer Pal Srow  and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Mr  Kamal Kishor Yadav.
  • He said that the Golden Jubilee year is celebrated throughout the country by the CISF. As many as 150 officers and soldiers of CISF units of Punjab and Haryana and various armed security forces besides others would participate in this walkathon.
  • He said that on successful completion of fifty years of its existence, CISF would be organizing various events like Walkathon, mass plantation of saplings, donation programme for under privileged people.  As a part of it, a Walkathon with the theme “Hum Fit To India Fit” is being organized by CISF Unit of Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat with an aim to spread a message on attaining fitness to all as the force look forward to a healthy and prosperous India.
  • He said that CISF was established in the year 1969 with an aim of providing security cover to the public sector undertakings. In these fifty years, the CISF has become a premier multi-skilled security agency providing security cover to major critical infrastructure, nuclear installations, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, sensitive Central government buildings, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation,  heritage monuments, Indian Embassy at Nepal, coal fields, and refineries etc. CISF has also been deployed as a peace keeping force in other countries since 2008. 
  • CISF has its own Fire Wing, providing fire safety coverage to different establishments. It is professionally a tech savvy force with upgradation to build an example of dedicated service to the nation, he added.
  • Chandigarh, Jan 12: In the upcoming bye-elections to Jind Assembly constituency, the candidates could withdraw their nominations by January 14 up to 3 pm. After this election symbols would be allotted to the contesting candidates.  
  • While giving details, Deputy Commissioner Jind and District Electoral Officer Mr. Amit Khatri said that the polling would be held on January 28 from 10 am to 5 pm. The results would be declared after completing the counting of votes on January 31.
  • He said that Chief Electoral Officer, Mr Rajeev Ranjan would give necessary directions to the district election officers and Returning officers on January 13 through video conferencing. He would also review the preparations and other arrangements of Jind bye-election.
  • He said that five teams have been constituted to check and prevent the illegal sale of liquor during assembly bye-elections. These teams would keep check on illegal movement or sale of liquor round the clock. To ensure proper checking, separate teams have been constituted for day and night.
  • He said that three teams have been constituted from excise and taxation department. Besides this, two separate teams have been deputed from excise and police staff. These teams are keeping check on illegal sale of liquor or its transportation.  During the checking by these teams in the last 15 days, 558 bottles of liquor were seized by these teams, he added.
  • Chandigarh, Jan 12 - Haryana Police has arrested three persons for allegedly possessing 37 gram heroin from two different locations in district Sirsa.
  • While stating this here today, a spokesman of Police Department said that the accused have been identified as Lakhbir Singh alias Bohar Singh of Bhatinda, Punjab presently residing at Mandi Dabwali, Gora Singh of Gadrana in Kalanwali and Ranjit Singh alias Ranjeeta, a resident of Balasar.
  • While Lakhbir Singh and Gora Singh were apprehended with 30 gram heroin during checking from near Bus Stand, Dabwali, another accused Ranjit Singh was arrested with 7 gram heroin from village Balasar in the district.
  • The spokesman said that after enquiring about the name of supplier, a case under NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
  • All accused would be taken on remand by producing them in the Court. Stern action would be taken after identifying the other persons involved in the racket of heroin smuggling and efforts were being made to nab them, he added.
