Chandigarh, June 4- On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal has urged the people of the state to take a pledge to conserve environment and maintain ecological balance.
In a message issued on the eve of World Environment Day here today, the Chief Minister called upon of the people of the state and said that these days our lifestyle in the present scenario is such that we are exploiting natural assets like water, fuel and energy. On the one hand we are exploiting ground water for our needs, on the other hand we are also polluting the water.
The Chief Minister said that to save the environment, we should emphasize on water conservation and keeping this in mind recently that the Haryana Government has started the 'Mera Pani Meri Virasat' scheme so that water can be saved for future generations.
He said that climate change has become another global issue today. Due to which our seasons are changing, the temperature is increasing and the groundwater level is falling. Due to changes in the trend of monsoon, natural disasters like floods, droughts, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other cyclonic storms are becoming very frequent. Interference with nature will lead to shortage of clean water and air.
He said that due to the lockdown during the Corona virus we got to witness a change in the environment. Everyone should, therefore, pledge to conserve environment.
