  • Chandigarh, Feb 6 – A two-day National Workshop on Improvement of Agriculture Statistics was organised by the Statistical Wing of the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department at Panchkula, near here today, to chalk out new areas where the use of remote sensing, IT and satellites can be used in a more meaningful manner.
  • Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar, who was chief guest on first day, appreciated the work of the Department and the Stat wing. He said that this workshop will give a new way and direction to the Agri Economists and Statisticians of the country which will help in formulation of better planning and policies which, in turn, will help in doubling the income of farmers of the state and the country.
  • Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Finance, Mr. T.V.S.N. Prasad and ACS, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Mrs. Navraj Sandhu appreciated the work of the Statistical Wing.
  • Different participants from Government of India namely Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute, National Sample Survey Office, State Agricultural Universities and from Gujarat participated in the Workshop. Participants from India Meteorological Department Delhi and Chandigarh along with Haryana Kisan Ayog also participated besides Scientists from the Agricultural Economics-HAU.
  • Director General, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Mr. Ajit Balaji Joshi, Additional Director, Agri (Stat.) Mr. R.S. Solanki, Director, Haryana Economic and Statistical Analysis and officers from Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department were also present in the workshop.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6 – As many as 1669 passports have so far been made for the outgoing students under the new Passport Assistance to Aspiring New Graduates (PATANG) scheme that was introduced in 2017-18. Now, it has been decided to roll out the scheme for this year too on the analogy adopted during last year.
  • While stating this here today, an official spokesperson said that a proposal to this effect has been approved by the Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal.
  • He said that under the PATANG initiative, the college students can easily apply and get their passports made on college campuses.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6 – Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mr. Rajiv Ranjan said that every citizen of the country should vote for strengthening the democracy. He said that as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, special campaign is organized every year from January 1 in each state to include the names of new voters in the voting list. Every person who is 18 years of age or above should get his or her name registered in the voter list, he added.
  • Mr. Ranjan was presiding over meeting of the State Level Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation Core Committee, which aims at making people aware to cast their vote and encourage youth to get their vote registered.
  • In the meeting, Mr. Ranjan directed the officers of Education Department to encourage eligible youth who are 18 years old or above to get their vote registered. For this, it should be checked in next one week through Election Education Clubs in colleges and higher education institutions whether all students have their voter cards or not. Those students who do not have voter card, they should be encouraged and the concerned electoral officers of area should be contacted for getting the voter cards made. 
  • The Chief Electoral Officer also directed the officers to promote the helpline toll free number 1950 among the voters. With this toll free number, the voters will be able to get information through SMS or call. Giving directions to the officers of the Education Department regarding the preparations for the forthcoming elections, he said that arrangement of ramps and toilets should be ensured in schools where polling booths are to be set up in the state so that the voters would not face any kind of inconvenience. 
  • He also directed the officers to make more publicity through various means so that the voting percentage could further be increased. He said that according to the Voter List, there is a decrease in the percentage of women voters in comparison to the men and special action plan should be prepared to overcome this shortcoming.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6- Haryana State Haj Committee has extended the date of depositing the requisite fee for Haj Yatra- 2019 by interested pilgrims according to their accommodation category from February 5 to February 15, 2019.
  • Stating this today, Chairman, Haryana State Haj Committee, Chaudhary Aurangzeb said that the interested pilgrims would have to submit their original passport, medical certificate and receipt of the requisite amount of Rs. 81,000 in Haryana State Haj Committee Office.
  • He said that if any selected pilgrim does not want to go on Haj pilgrimage for any reason, then he or she must ensure to send its information to the office so that the applicants in the waiting list could be selected for Haj pilgrimage
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6 – Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Mr. Kanwar Pal administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected MLA of Jind Assembly Constituency, Dr. Krishna Midha, here today.
  • Interacting with the mediapersons after the swearing-in ceremony, the Speaker said that now the number of BJP MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha has increased to 48. He said that as an MLA, Dr. Krishna Midha should raise the problems of the public with the government and it will provide full assistance to him.
  • Dr. Krishna Midha expressed his gratitude to the Speaker. He said that during the tenure of four-and-a-half years of the present State Government, there has been overall development in Jind whereas in the Congress regime, Jind remained undeveloped. He said, “I will work with complete dedication so that maximum development could be carried out in Jind”.
  • He said that the people of Jind are extremely happy with the development works done in Jind during the tenure of the present State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal. He said that he would make concerted efforts to get more and more development done in Jind.
  • Others present on the occasion included Urban Local Bodies Minister, Mrs. Kavita Jain, MLAs namely, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta, Mr. Bakhshish Singh Virk and Mr. Ghanshyam Saraf, and family members of Dr. Krishna Midha.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6- Haryana Government has nominated 16 non-official members of District Grievances Redressal Committee (DGRC),Faridabad, Gurugram, Jind, Kurukshetra, Nuh, Panchkula, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamunanagar, with immediate effect.
  • Sandeep Sharma has been nominated for DGRC, Faridabad, while Naresh Chawla and Vijay Aggarwal for DGRC, Gurugram, Rajesh and Dr Bir Singh Nandal for DGRC, Jind, Rajneesh for DGRC, Kurukshetra, Gian Chand Arya for DGRC, Nuh, Surender Sharma and Surjeet Rahi for DGRC, Panchkula, Surender Kalle and Har Bhagwan Dhawan for DGRC, Rohtak, Chhotu Ram Jain for DGRC, Sirsa, Nand Kishor Chauhan, Yogesh Kaushik and Yogesh Sharma for DGRC, Sonipat and Om Parkash Arora for DGRC, Yamunanagar.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6: The cooperative sugar mills in Haryana have so far produced over 16.17 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 174.04 lakh quintals of sugarcane during the current crushing season. 
  • While stating this here today, a spokesman of Haryana State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills said that the Cooperative Sugar Mill, Shahabad has produced a maximum of over 3.12 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 32.31 lakh quintals of sugarcane. Cooperative Sugar Mill, Rohtak has produced over 2.36 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 26.58 lakh quintals of sugarcane, followed by Cooperative Sugar Mill, Kaithal which has produced over 1.87 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 19.73 lakh quintals of sugarcane and Cooperative Sugar Mill, Karnal, has produced over 1.60 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 17.03 lakh quintals of sugarcane.
  • Similarly, the Cooperative Sugar Mill, Meham has produced 1.52 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 17.77 lakh quintals of sugarcane, Cooperative Sugar Mill, Gohana has produced  over 1.37 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 15.28 lakh quintals of sugarcane, Cooperative Sugar Mill, Jind has produced  over 1.32 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 13.95 lakh quintals of sugarcane, Cooperative Sugar Mill, Palwal has produced over 1.16 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 12.17 lakh quintals of sugarcane, Cooperative Sugar Mill,  Panipat has produced 1.11 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 11.60 lakh quintals of sugarcane, and Cooperative Sugar Mill Sonipat has produced 69,000 quintals of sugar by crushing 7.62 lakh quintals of sugarcane.
  • Apart from this, HAFED Sugar Mill, Assandh has produced over 1.78 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 19.82 lakh quintals of sugarcane.
  • He said that so far, the average rate of sugar recovery by the cooperative sugar mills has been registered as 9.59 per cent.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6- In the ongoing Surajkund International Craft Mela-2019, the visitors are being welcomed with a unique idea called ‘Apna Ghar’ of Haryana. This ‘Apna Ghar’ houses the real traditional lifestyle of Haryana. The architecture with arches associated with the state, the open veranda and rooms reflect the true rural persona of a Haryanvi village house.
  • The décor inside is typically rural with a king-sized charpoy, agricultural tools, ethnic dresses etc. Visitors throng the place with much awe and wonder. Some feel nostalgic about their roots, while for many it is a discovery of a new culture. Visitors take photographs with various artifacts and interact with the traditional craftspersons in Apna Ghar.  
  • Dr. Maha Singh Poonia, Curator Dharohar Museum enthusiastically stated that “We have tried our level best to bring to people the true heritage and lifestyle of rural Haryana. People come here and inquisitively ask for information and take photographs of this fascinating life from the state of Haryana. From costumes, earthenware, metal ware to agricultural tools, there is Haryana displayed in every corner of ‘Apna Ghar’.  We also organized a fashion show during the Surajkund Mela which showcased the ethnic costumes of Haryana and it was extremely loved by each and everyone who witnessed it”.
  • Mr Muthoo Khan from Haryana is also giving a live demonstration with his traditional loom at the ‘Apna Ghar’. He stated that ‘he and his community are an expert in handlooms and specialize in making bed sheets and light quilts”.
  • Similarly, the theme state –Maharashtra has created a traditional Marathi house which presents the traditional style of architecture with veranda as the central figure and living areas and rooms surrounding it.
  • Folk artists from Maharashtra sit in the veranda and greet the audience with bhajans sung in the praise of Vithal Bhagwan. The folk artist, Mr Chitamani says he and his fellow artists have come from Sholapur, Maharashtra and use instruments like Taal, Veena and Harmonium to recite their bhajans. It is an age-old art which we have inherited from our ancestors”.
  • The cultural evening brought to the visitors riveting performances from the state of Rajasthan last evening. The performances by various folk artists were mesmerizing. Traditional folk dances like Kachchi Ghodi, Chari Dance, Charkhi Dance, Kalbelia and peacock dance gave the audience a colourful and cultural experience from the land of the sands.
  • Folk singers won many hearts with their traditional songs like ‘Aaomare desh’ along with a Rajasthani rendition of Bollywood numbers, the power packed performance by the group was greeted with thunderous applause after every song.
  • Drawing Competition was also organised held today at the Natya Shala, where many school children participated with much enthusiasm and fervour. These children displayed exceptional talent in art, with lifelike portraits, sceneries and abstract art; these children were no less than seasoned artists.
  • Chandigarh, Feb 6: A special photography competition on the theme of 33rd Surajkund Mela is to be organised by Surajkund Mela Authority during the ongoing 33rd Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2019 at Faridabad on February 8, 2019.
  • While giving details an official spokesman said that professional photographers and photography enthusiasts of any age group can take part in this competition. He said that the photograph should be of 33rd Surajkund International Crafts Mela.
  • In order to participate in the competition, the participants are required to submit two photographs with their printouts on A4 size photosheet at the media center of Surajkund fair premises by 2 PM on February 8, 2019. A slogan must be written on the photographs of the fair. The participants are required to submit hard copy as well as soft copy, he added.
