  • Chandigarh, March 20: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal said that Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi has announced a new sports scheme under which 1000 selected students would receive an annual scholarship worth Rs 5 lakh for 8 years so as to develop the budding players. One thousand new students would be added under the scheme ever year, he added.
  • Mr Manohar Lal was addressing the gathering at the prize distribution function for the medal-winning sportsperson of ‘Khelo India School Games’ – 2018 for under-17 at Haryana Raj Bhawan here today. On this occasion, Governor Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal and Education Minister Mr Ram Bilas Sharma honoured the sportsperson with silver medal and certificates.
  • While congratulating the medal winning sportspersons, their family members and coaches for their excellent performance, the Chief Minister said that it was a matter of pride for the State that Haryana has bagged first position in the Khelo India School Games organized in Delhi from January 31 to February 8 this year by winning a total number of 102 medals including 38 gold, 26 silver and 38 bronze in various disciplines of athletics, judo, basketball, boxing, wrestling, kabaddi, football  and hockey. He said that youth of the State has huge potential and they have proved their metal in Olympic Games and other national and international level competitions. Out of the total medals won by the country in prestigious events, maximum are won by Haryana players, he added.
  • Mr Manohar Lal said that Haryana is being developed as a sports hub and for this; a new sports policy has been implemented. Various provisions have been made in this policy with an aim to give major impetus to both sports and sportspersons in the State. He also described sports as an effective medium which help in bringing about a positive change in the society adding that the development of any society could be gauged from the overall development of their people.
  • The Chief Minister said that Reading, Riting and Rithmetic, the 3R of education is not sufficient and the physical and mental development of the students is also necessary for their overall development in which sports could play a vital role. He said that Vyayamshalas are being opened at village level to provide a healthy atmosphere to people of all age groups. As many as 1000 Vyayamshalas would be opened this year. Apart from this, stadia are also being constructed in town and cities.
  • Speaking on this occasion, the Governor, Prof, Kaptan Singh Solanki said that the aim of Central Government in organizing the Khelo India School Games  for under -17 was to tap the potential of teenaged as their  potential manifest in this age. He complimented the State Government for giving special emphasis on the key areas including sports and education. He said that the State Government has made a special provision in the admission module of Moti Lal Nehru Sports School Rai, in district Sonipat as per which the outstanding sportspersons desirous of admission in this school would be given preference.
  • Education Minister, Mr Ram Bilas Sharma said that 5000 children from the country participated in the Khelo India School Games out of which 377 sportsperson were from Haryana.

  • Among those present on this occasion included Secretary, Governor Mr Amit Aggarwal, Director, Secondary Education Mr Rajiv Ratan, Director Elementary Education and Additional Secretary, School Education Department Mr Rajnarayan Kaushik and large number of students, their family members and coaches .
  • Chandigarh, March 20 – Village Todi Kheri in district Jind of Haryana will now be called Village Sarna Khedi as Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal has approved a proposal in this regard. 
  • While stating this here today, a spokesman of Revenue Department said that this decision has been taken in view of the proposal of village Panchayat of Todi Khera which has recommended for the change of name to Sarna Khedi.  In ancient times, the village was popularly known with the name of Sarna Khedi. 
  • He said that gram panchayat Todi Kheri had requested that there is another village namely Tito Kheri at a distance of just four kilometers from  the village which lead to confusion not only among the people but also for availing ambulance, fire brigade,  police and postal services.   
  • He said that there is neither any historical significance attached with the name Todi Kheri nor any incidence related to it. 
  • He said that no other village in the name of Sarna Khedi is inhabited anywhere in Sub-Division Safido, district Jind or anywhere in Haryana. Hence, the changed name of Sarna Khedi of village Todi Kheri would not have clash or confusion with the name.
