  • Chandigarh, Aug 26 – On the auspicious occasion of festival of Raksha Bandhan, the personnel of Haryana Police and Durga Shakti Rapid Action Force (DSRAF), girl school students and Brahma Kumaris tied rakhi on the wrist of Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal at his residence today.
  • The Chief Minister said that this festival symbolises a sacred social bond of protection of sisters by their brothers. He said that this day, the siblings pray for each others’ well being, safety and prosperity.   Mr. Manohar Lal gave blessings and distributed sweets and gifts to them.
  • It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had launched Durga Shakti App for ensuring safety of girls and women. The app will enable women to seek immediate help of the police in case of an emergency. After downloading the app, any woman or girl who is in distress, just by pressing a red button on the app, could send information along with her GPS location to the Women Helpline number of her district. The police could use the GPS location to ascertain the victim’s whereabouts and send a team to help the women or girl in distress.
  • The Chief Minister had announced  several other significant decisions at a programme on women’s security and empowerment organized under the Ek Aur Sudhar Programme. These included providing a lawyer of choice to a rape victim, investigation officer to complete investigation in a rape case in one month and in eve-teasing within 15 days.
