- Chandigarh, August 27 – In yet another crackdown on drug peddling, Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police have seized 490 gram heroin valued around Rs 1.5 crore in international market from near Gohana in Sonipat. Two people have also been arrested in this connection.
- While stating this here today, a spokesman of Police Department said arrested accused have been identified as Rajender and Sahab Singh, both resident of village Rasida in Jind district. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to bring heroin from their accomplice Raju, who resides near Nizamudin railway station in Delhi and supply it in Gohana, Jind, Narwana and Patran, Khannori in Punjab. Accused Rajender was arrested earlier also under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
- He said that a team of STF received a tip-off that two persons riding on motorcycle bearing Punjab registration number were carrying heroin and would pass through Khandrai mor in Gohana. Acting swiftly, STF team immediately put a trap and nabbed both the accused with 490 gram heroin.
- He said that a case under NDPS Act has been registered against both accused and police is investigating the source of drug suppliers. Both have been taken on five day police remand so that involvement of others in drug peddling could be unearthed.
- Meanwhile, Director General of Police, Mr. B.S. Sandhu appreciated the efforts of STF for launching a crackdown on drug peddlers. He said that Police would not allow spread of drug menace in the state and stern action would be taken against those who are involved or supporting such practices. He also urged the people to come forward fearlessly and share the information against the sale, consumption and use of narcotics in the state. The war against drugs could be won with the active support and cooperation of people, he added.
