  • Chandigarh, Aug 31 – Haryana Education Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma said that the State Government has decided to institute the NSS Awards for giving recognition to the outstanding work done under NSS. For the first time in Haryana, these awards would be conferred on NSS Foundation Day on September 24. Nominations for NSS Awards 2017-18 have been invited for the awards latest by September 10, 2018.
  • Mr. Sharma said that the National Service Scheme is one of the flagship programmes of the government. It aims at personality and character development of the students through voluntary community service. The students of senior secondary schools, colleges and universities participate in NSS activities. Currently there are over 36 lakh NSS volunteers in the country and about 1.25 lakh in Haryana, he added. 
  • He said that these awards will be conferred every year. He said that one award each would be given to Universities/District Programme Coordinator, three awards to Programme Officers and 10 awards to NSS volunteers.
  • The Minister said that all University NSS Coordinators of the state have been directed to ensure sending the nominations in respect of their university/district by September 10 positively.
