  • Chandigarh, June 9–The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has urged the universities to introduce new global-standard   courses based on skill education and digital technology to impart quality education to the youth of Haryana so that they can make their mark. Science faculty should be made more effective and expanded even in schools and colleges in the state, he added.
  • The Chief Minister was speaking on the concluding day of the two-day workshop jointly organized on ‘Academic and Economic Management’ by the Haryana State Higher Education Council and Kurukshetra University, in Kurukshetra, today.
  • Every university in the state should prove its excellence in at least one subject. By doing so, an identity of state universities at national and international level would be established and Haryana can emerge as an ideal state in the field of higher education, he said.
  • Emphasizing the need for qualitative change in the field of higher education, the Chief Minister said the number of universities and colleges in Haryana had increased at a fast pace  in the last few years. In the 21st century, the youth of the country would be able to play a significant role only when they are educated and made capable and skilled.
  • The youth has great expectations from the universities which should shoulder the responsibility of enlightening them with quality education so that they can make their contribution in nation-building.
  • The Chief Minister said topics related to education and health topped the list of priorities of the state government. Today, more than 50 universities are functioning in the state. There is a college within a radius of 20 km. The state government has identified 29 more places where new colleges are required. After colleges are set up there, girls and the rural youth in Haryana would not have to go to towns for higher education.
  • The government has set a target to set up a medical college in every district of the state. When all medical colleges are ready, at least 2,000 doctors will pass out. The state government has started several new programmes to educate and make the youth capable.
  • While appreciating the work being done by the Haryana State Higher Education Council, the Chief Minister said outcomes of this workshop would help in designing better strategies for the development of higher education and schemes in future. He urged the vice-chancellors and officers of universities to make their alumni data base better to enable the alumni to play a greater role in the development of universities.
  • Speaking on this occasion, Chairman, Haryana State Higher Education Council, Mr B.K. Kuthiala, said Haryana ranked among the best states in the field of higher education. Gross enrollment ratio in higher education in Haryana is more than other states. Everyone needs to work hard and together in this direction.
  • Others present on this occasion included MLA Mr Pawan Saini, Vice-Chancellor of KUK Mr Kailash Chander Sharma, Vice- Chancellor, of State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Prof. Rajbir Singh, and VCs of other universities.
  • Later, the Chief Minister called on three important persons in Kurukshetra and Shahabad who have done commendable work for the society, and presented them with four-year achievements of Central Government.Under the Sampark Se Smadhan Abhiyan, 40,000 people in the country and 2,000 in the state who have done commendable work for the society, would be visited.         
  • Mr Mnaohar Lal met internationally renowned Scientist Prof. Dr Kuldip Dhindsa, Mr Justice (retired) Dharampal Singh, and Mr Yashpal Wadhwa, famous businessman of Shahabad.
